Foster + Partners, the global studio for sustainable architecture, urbanism, engineering and design, has signed a lease to occupy three floors of the recently completed, sustainable workspace at 50 Electric Boulevard.
Fosters are long-standing residents of Battersea, having used their Hester Road riverside studio, on the other side of Battersea Park, as their head office since 1990. But having run out of room there, the firm has committed to leasing 48,000 sq ft of office space at number 50 and is now in the process of fitting out.
Of course, Fosters are completely familiar with the 16-storey office building, which was completed in 2024, having designed the undulating glass fronted building themselves as part of the riverside regeneration project. And the firm has been instrumental in shaping the area. As well as designing 50 Electric Boulevard, Fosters have also designed Battersea Roof Gardens, as well Apple’s 500,000 sq ft UK headquarters inside BPS and the new Apple store in Turbine Hall A.
“It has been a privilege to be part of the redevelopment of Battersea Power Station and we are now delighted to be expanding into a state-of-the-art office space at 50 Electric Boulevard, a recently completed building by the practice. The location has strong links with our existing Riverside studio in Battersea and allows us to actively support our growing workforce in London.” Stuart Latham, Managing Partner at Foster + Partners
Outstanding facilities
Spanning 90,000 sq m, 50 Electric Boulevard is one of the largest office developments in the Battersea Power Station district and is packed with state-of-the art features.
The new office space features 2.82m floor to ceiling, fully glazed and openable windows, and access to private and communal terraces. Staff can also enjoy a double-height glazed pavilion, which is filled with more than 800 plants and mature trees; a 270-person ‘Light Box’; and a presentation area which is ideal for events and conferences. They will also be able to access the communal roof garden, which has incredible views across Battersea Power Station, the River Thames and the London skyline.
High specification
50 Electric Boulevard is built to the highest specification and is a WELL Platinum-rated, BREEAM Outstanding workplace. It also has a SmartScore Platinum-rated digital infrastructure, which offers world class connectivity and a contactless building experience.
Unsurprisingly, the building is award-winning too, having won the Architectural Design of the Year at the London Construction Awards, and ‘Gold’ in the Mixed-Use Architecture (Built) category at the Global Future Design Awards.
Meet the neighbours
Foster + Partners is joined by global marketing group, TEAM LEWIS, and leading home technology company, SharkNinja, which between them have taken 42,500 sq ft at 50 Electric Boulevard, which means the building is now approximately 50% let.
The Fosters staff will join a community of more than 3,500 office workers across 60+ companies who are now based in the Battersea Power Station neighbourhood, as well 150 local shops, bars and restaurants. Battersea Power Station Underground station on the Northern Line, is just a two minute walk away too, with a new Tube entrance to the station due to open directly under 50 Electric Boulevard in Spring 2025.
“Foster + Partners’ expansion to 50 Electric Boulevard is a ringing endorsement for the regeneration project from one of the biggest architectural contributors to the development. Not only is their decision to take office space at 50 Electric Boulevard a sign of their pride in the building, but it also emphasises the appeal of the location and the variety of amenities on offer, which make Battersea Power Station such a brilliant and unique place to work.”
Sam Cotton, Head of Asset Management at Battersea Power Station Development Company
